Blue Thumb Stream Protection Program

The Blue Thumb Water Quality Education Program is the educational arm of the OCC Water Quality Division and its mission is “stream protection through education.” We carry out this mission by providing water quality education statewide, and by supporting a network of citizen scientists who monitor Oklahoma streams.

Blue Thumb volunteers collect chemical data on local streams in their communities, conduct groundwater screenings and share their knowledge of water quality with others. Volunteers include retirees, students, Girl Scout and Boy Scout groups and homeschooling families. Blue Thumb volunteers are a diverse group of people; what they share is a commitment to protect and improve Oklahoma streams. Our number of monitoring sites varies, but typically we have between 75-100 active sites.

Visit the Blue Thumb website at www.bluethumbok.com for more information and to find out how you can get involved!
