Oklahoma Conservation Commission Announces Second Annual Crossroads Conference
Enid, OK, May 17, 2024 – The Oklahoma Conservation Commission (OCC), Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts, and Garfield County Conservation District are thrilled to announce the second annual Crossroads Conference, set to take place on July 30, 2024, at the Autry Technology Center in Enid, OK. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s conference promises to offer an even more dynamic and enriching experience for agricultural producers.
The Crossroads Conference aims to unite agricultural producers from various sectors, creating a platform for sharing knowledge and fostering innovation at the intersection of multiple production systems. This year’s event will feature three distinct tracks tailored to farmers, ranchers, and urban food producers, ensuring relevant and valuable content for everyone in agriculture.
Last year’s conference, themed “Mind Over Market,” attracted around 100 producers and featured insightful presentations from notable speakers such as Roy Pfaltzgraff from Colorado and Doug Ferguson from Nebraska. Attendees left with expanded perceptions of agricultural possibilities, thanks to engaging sessions led by these experts.
This year, the conference is excited to welcome Colin Seis from Australia as one of the keynote speakers. Seis, a pioneer of the “pasture cropping” technique, will share his groundbreaking methods of growing grain crops within perennial rangeland cover. Additional speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
Meg Greski, Soil Health Program Coordinator at the OCC, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, “The Crossroads Conference has been a place for producers to learn from one another. It’s where they can get together and ask, ‘What works here in the real world?’”
Greski continued, “We also hope to connect those whose ag practices differ from what their neighbors commonly do, so they have friends of the same mindset to share ideas and advice with. We also want to bring in knowledge and experience from other parts of the US and the world, that can be applied to solve problems here.”
Greg Kloxin, Director of the Soil Health Program, also highlighted the importance of the conference, “Agriculture is constantly evolving, and the Crossroads Conference provides a critical space for producers to stay ahead of the curve. By bringing together diverse voices and expertise, we can continue to drive progress and sustainability in our agricultural practices.”
